7 Autumn Activities to Help Keep You Healthy

The trees are changing to a brilliant array of colors and their leaves are falling to the ground. Autumn has arrived! This is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the brisk air. However, the Autumn Harvest can also make it easy to overindulge in your favorite comfort foods as the weather turns cooler. To help you stay well this autumn, we're highlighting seven healthy fall activities. Join us as we celebrate the season in good health! 

1.  Go for a Walk or a Hike

One of the best things about autumn is the beautiful scenery. Take advantage of this by going for a walk or a hike in your local park. The air is refreshing, the leaves are changing colors, and you can take in all the beauty of nature. Plus, a good hike or walk is great for your cardiovascular health, especially if you're walking on more difficult trails.

2.  Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Picking pumpkins from a patch is a great way to spend some quality time with your loved ones during autumn. Not to mention, you get to take home some fresh produce! Use your bounty of pumpkins to make delicious and nutritious dishes, like roasted pumpkin seeds or pumpkin soup.

3.  Go Apple Picking

There's something special about picking your own apples in the fall. It's a fun activity for kids and a great way to enjoy the fruits of your labor. With so many delicious vegetables coming into season, we can't forget about fall's finest fruit. Apples are an autumnal treasure and it's a tradition to go apple-picking!

4.  Visit the Farmer’s Market

Why not visit your local farmer's market for all your Fall needs? You'll be able to find fresh produce and homemade goods, and support local farmers and artisans all in one stop. Plus, it's a great way to get out and enjoy the autumn weather!

5.  Do your Indoor Activities Outside

Reading or doing work indoors can become quite dull and boring. So why not get some fresh air and sunlight to rejuvenate you? Natural sunlight provides you with vitamin D, while also stimulating natural energy. Instead of drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, sit outside for 20 minutes; studies show that the sun will wake you up just as efficiently as caffeine, if not better!

6.  Roast Some Veggies

There are plenty of healthy activities to enjoy in the fall, and not all of them have to do with exercise. One great way to take advantage of autumnal fruits and vegetables is to roast them. Simply cut up some onions, squash, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, and broccoli into equal pieces, drizzle with olive oil, season as desired, and roast in a 400-425° F oven for 20-30 minutes. You'll end up with a tray of delicious, nutritious roasted vegetables to enjoy.

7.  Rake leaves

Raking leaves can be a great way to get some extra exercise in for the day. Depending on your weight and how quickly you rake, you can burn up to 400 calories in just half an hour. So put on some ankle weights and make the most of your leaf-raking time!
